Shoonaya
Katha
Ahalya was the profoundly beautiful and virtuous wife of Sage Gautama. Enamored by her beauty, Indra, the king of gods, disguised himself as Gautama and tricked her while the sage was away.
When Gautama returned and discovered the deception, he cursed Indra. Furious and heartbroken, he also cursed Ahalya, saying, "You shall become a stone, invisible to the world, subsisting only on air, until Lord Rama passes by and the dust of his feet redeems you."
For thousands of years, Ahalya existed in a petrified, dormant state in the deserted ashram, deeply absorbed in austerities and silent repentance. The once vibrant ashram became a desolate, terrifying place.
Centuries later, the young princes Rama and Lakshmana, accompanied by Sage Vishwamitra, entered the desolate ashram. Vishwamitra told Rama the tragic story of Ahalya and instructed him to enter the ruins.
As Rama walked through the overgrown hermitage, the divine dust from his lotus feet blew onto the stone. Instantly, the stone melted into flesh, and Ahalya emerged, radiant and purified, shining like the full moon.
She fell at Rama's feet, weeping tears of pure devotion. Rama gently lifted her, treating her with the utmost respect as a mother, and her husband Gautama joyfully accepted her back. The story is a powerful testament to the purifying power of divine grace.
