Katha
Hiranyakashipu, the terrifying demon king, had conquered the three worlds and banned the worship of Lord Vishnu, demanding that he alone be worshipped as God. Yet, his own young son, Prahlada, was born a natural, fervent devotee of Vishnu.
Enraged by his son's defiance, Hiranyakashipu tried to educate him out of his devotion. When that failed, his anger turned murderous. He ordered his guards to kill the boy. They threw Prahlada off a cliff, but Vishnu caught him. They threw him into a pit of venomous snakes, but the snakes formed a bed for him. They tried to burn him alive in the lap of Holika, but the fire consumed her and left Prahlada untouched.
Through every torture, Prahlada remained completely calm, continuously chanting 'Om Namo Narayanaya,' feeling no hatred towards his father, only profound peace.
Finally, driven mad with rage, Hiranyakashipu tied his son to a pillar in the palace. 'Where is your God?!' he screamed. 'Is he in this pillar?'
'He is in the pillar, He is in the rustling leaves, He is in me, and He is in you, father,' Prahlada replied calmly.
Hiranyakashipu smashed the pillar with his mace. The pillar shattered with a deafening roar, and out burst Lord Narasimha—a terrifying half-man, half-lion avatar. Roaring with fury to protect his devotee, Narasimha dragged the demon king to the threshold and destroyed him, validating the pure, unassailable faith of a child.
