Guru Angad Dev and Emperor Humayun

After suffering a crushing defeat at the hands of Sher Shah Suri in 1540, the Mughal Emperor Humayun was fleeing for his life. Seeking spiritual solace and blessings to regain his empire, he visited Khadur Sahib to meet the second Sikh Guru, Guru Angad Dev Ji.

When Humayun arrived at the congregation, Guru Angad was deeply absorbed in teaching children and listening to the singing of Gurbani. He did not immediately stand up or acknowledge the Emperor's arrival.

Accustomed to absolute flattery and immediate attention, Humayun's royal ego was deeply wounded. In a fit of immense anger, he placed his hand on the hilt of his sword and began to draw it, intending to strike the Guru.

Guru Angad looked up calmly, completely unfazed by the weapon. He smiled and said, 'O Emperor! Where was this brave sword when you were facing Sher Shah Suri on the battlefield? You ran away from a real warrior like a coward, and now you draw your sword against unarmed spiritual men?'

The Guru's piercing words instantly shattered Humayun's arrogance. Realizing his foolishness, the Emperor sheathed his sword and fell at the Guru's feet, begging for forgiveness.

The Guru forgave him and prophesied, 'You have lost your throne due to your arrogance, but if you learn humility and justice, you shall one day regain your empire.' Years later, Humayun indeed regained the throne of Delhi.
