The Rescue of Bhai Joga Singh

Bhai Joga Singh from Peshawar was a deeply devoted Sikh of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. He used to say, 'I am Joga (worthy) only of the Guru.' When he returned to Peshawar for his wedding, the Guru decided to test his absolute devotion.

Just as Joga Singh was circling the sacred fire during the wedding ceremony (Lavan), a messenger arrived with an urgent letter (Hukamnama) from the Guru demanding his immediate presence in Anandpur.

After completing only two of the four rounds, Joga Singh stopped, bowed, and immediately left his bride and family, stating, 'My Guru has called me.' Everyone praised his incredible dedication, and slowly, a subtle pride and ego began to creep into his mind.

On his journey to Anandpur, resting in Hoshiarpur, the ego distorted his mind. Drawn by lust, he walked towards the house of a local prostitute. However, when he reached the door, he saw a fierce, armed guard standing outside in the heavy rain. Intimidated, Joga Singh retreated.

He tried three more times during the night, but the watchful guard was always there, staring right at him, preventing him from entering. By morning, Joga Singh realized his folly, wept in repentance, and rushed to Anandpur.

When he reached the Guru's court, he begged for forgiveness. Guru Gobind Singh Ji smiled and revealed his own clothes, which were soaking wet and covered in mud. The Guru himself had stood as the guard all night in the rain to protect his disciple from falling into sin.
