Guru Nanak at Mecca

During his fourth major journey, Guru Nanak Dev Ji traveled to Mecca, the holiest city in Islam. Dressed as a Muslim pilgrim (Haji) in blue robes, carrying a staff and a book, he joined the other pilgrims.

Exhausted from the journey, the Guru lay down to sleep. Unintentionally, his feet were pointing towards the holy Kaaba. A Muslim priest named Jiwan saw this and became furiously angry at the perceived disrespect.

He kicked the Guru and shouted, 'Who is this infidel sleeping with his feet towards the House of God?'

Guru Nanak remained perfectly calm and spoke softly, 'Brother, I am very tired. Please, be kind enough to drag my feet and point them in a direction where the House of God is not present.'

In a fit of rage, Qazi Jiwan grabbed the Guru's feet and violently dragged them in the opposite direction. But to his absolute shock and terror, as he moved the Guru's feet, the Kaaba itself miraculously moved in the same direction!

The priest fell to his knees, realizing his immense arrogance. Guru Nanak taught the gathered crowd that Allah is not confined to one building, one city, or one direction. God is omnipresent, residing in all directions and within all hearts.
